MENWAR GRIOT DU SAGAÏ

Espace vital comble, le Balattou au zénith de tout ce que Montréal compte de ressortissants de l’Océan Indien. Maurice est à l’honneur. Ce maître sorcier qui a fait connaissance avec les artistes en exil sur tous les continents, cet homme au contact vrai et sincère, au regard intérieur, au calme angoissant et à l’esprit artistique d’abord, est un griot du Sagaï créole. Des paroles aux accents qui trainent et enchantent, sous des courges et de la chayotte, volcan rythmique, percussions lascives et environnementales, les esprits planent et se reposent dans cette ambiance poétique et parfois « funk » et « soul » et « reggae » des âmes, harmonie Ravanne aux accords uniques. Menwar, seul. Univers riche et poétique, il vit les notes, surgit le pouls océanique, les fruits sonores des mers antiques, les gerbes de couleurs diachroniques, sur des gammes d’épines et de soie, des portées révolutionnaires et sensuelles. Les revendications secrètes, les éclats célestes que véhiculent les « divinités » subéquatoriales, opèrent. Ces dix dernières années Menwar a retrouvé ses marques, voici ce qu’en disent les cahiers du Festival : En 1998, après 14 ans de vide discographique, Menwar sort un premier CD, «Pop Lékonomi» Puis, il fait éditer un livre accompagné d’une cassette pour enseigner sa méthode révolutionnaire de la Ravanne. Il peaufine son style et sort en 2002 “Leko Rivyer Nwar” et présente Sagaï, une énergie musicale qui transperce l’âme. Style où prédominent les sons acoustiques et les percussions, il invente même des instruments originaux à partir de coques de pistaches et de tiges de fleurs de canne. C’est l’aboutissement d’un long parcours musical et le couronnement d’une carrière peu commune. Le Sagaï propulse Menwar au Festival “Musiques Métisses d’Angoulême“, aux Mayottes, en Afrique du Sud, à la Réunion pour les festivals “Sakifo” et dans les autres îles de l’Océan Indien. En 2006, avec la sortie réussie de son album Ay Ay Lolo, Menwar est encensé dans la presse française. « Prophète d’un « sagaï » dansant sur fonds soul et funk qui incendie la France, ce griot créole venu d’Afrique et virtuose de Ravanne, fait penser à Bob Marley ». Menwar, chef de clan, tous, instrumentistes, instruments, femme qui danse, hommes de tous les « spermes virtuels et spirituels », la cavalcade des sons et des notes coule. Tonnerre, éclairs visuels, sujets en transe, notes rebelles, la musique accouche de tous ses fous désirs. Passion bouillonne, amours tectoniques, angoisse volcanique baignée d’une générosité sans limite. Autant d’offrandes et de libations pour éloigner les fureurs démoniaques. La Caravane divine descend sur nous. Les Productions Nuits d’Afrique ont réussi, pour cette 22e édition du Festival international Nuits d’Afrique, un coup de maître, comme elles savent faire naître les rencontres fécondes à l’instar des « Poupées Ashanti ».
